A1: Different approaches to make soils interesting!
Eric Wyss, GLOBE Switzerland
Soils are home to far more than half of the earth’s biodiversity – yet they receive little attention in school education. There are exciting approaches to make the study of soils interesting for students: Listening to soil organisms, extracting earthworms, and detecting microbial activity before implementing soil science investigations. Join us and explore these exciting approaches!
The workshop will take place outdoors.
The workshop capacity is limited to 20 participants.
B1: Outdoor Learning Activities in GLOBE: Connecting Students with Nature (similar to A3, but with emphasis on activities for primary school students)
CŠOD Teachers (GLOBE Slovenia)
In this outdoor workshop, CŠOD teachers, who are specialized in outdoor learning, will demonstrate several activities that can be combined with GLOBE activities in nature. If you are interested in exploring ways to connect GLOBE activities with the broader field of outdoor learning, you are invited to attend.
CŠOD – Center šolskih in obšolskih dejavnosti (Centre for School and Outdoor Education) is Slovenia’s national public institution for outdoor learning and the national coordinator for GLOBE.
The workshop will take place outdoors.
C1: Collaborate for Change: Empowering Students Through GLOBE Protocols and Community Engagement (identical to C4)
GLOBE Ireland Team

Please bring your laptops to the session.
Wednesday, November 13th
16:00 – 17:30
A2: Accessing and Using NASA Satellite Data for GLOBE Activities (identical to A4)
Peter Falcon, NASA
With over 30 NASA satellites in space studying our planet, where does one go to access real time NASA data that can be used for student research?
Join me as we go over the various NASA data websites, educator resources, activities and latest imagery and information on climate change. NASA has many data visualizations, animations, science talks and online activities for students of all ages. Bring your computer or Ipad to navigate the sites in real time.
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops.
B2: Autumn and Winter GLOBE Discoveries: An Inquiry-Based Learning Approach (identical to B3)
Lenka Vlčková and Jan Blažek, GLOBE Czech Republic
Are you wondering how to use questions and hypotheses to motivate students beyond GLOBE observations? Join us for an outdoor exploration guided by trainers experienced in working with the primary school teacher community in the Czech Republic. We might get our hands a little muddy during the workshop, but don’t worry—soil isn’t dirt.
The workshop will take place outdoors.
C2: Telling Our GLOBE Story: The Power of Storytelling
Yashraj Patil, SNJB’s College of Engineering, India and Ramona Mercieca, GLOBE Malta
In this workshop, you will learn how to transform scientific data into engaging stories that communicate key findings creatively. Using GLOBE data prepared by the trainers or data from your own GLOBE project, you will discover how to share your insights through storytelling. You’ll visualize your chosen theme, select characters (like plants, animals, or soil elements), and highlight the main parts of your narrative.
You will explore creative ways to present your data, making it resonate with a broader audience. The goal is to craft an engaging and memorable story that’s easy to understand, regardless of familiarity with GLOBE measurements. You’ll use Canva to visualize your stories with images, graphics, and text. By the end, you’ll have created a unique story that effectively showcases how scientific results can be communicated through storytelling.
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops. You may also bring your own data if you wish. Having accounts with Canva and ArcGIS StoryMap (or Log In, if you already have an account) is recommended.
D2: GLOBE Data Visualization and Analysis tools – practice
David Overoye, GLOBE Technology team
The GLOBE database contains nearly 260 million data collected over the years. If you want to get a guided tour on how to find, compare, visualize, export or share data that you may need for teaching or your students may need for a research project, join this session.
To be able to practice on your own, bring your laptop or tablet. Having access to Google Drive and Google Sheets would be advantageous.
U.S. Embassy and GLOBE Program Connections Meeting (only for U.S. Embassy representatives and invited guests)
GLOBE Program Implementation Office and GLOBE Europe and Eurasia Region Coordination Office
The purpose of this informal meeting is to bring together U.S. Embassy representatives from posts around Europe and Eurasia region to discuss and highlight their role in supporting GLOBE Program at country level. We expect participants from posts with extensive experience in communicating and supporting GLOBE Program, as well as those coming from posts that wish to establish or strengthen the collaboration between the embassy and the program.
Format: in-person with the option to connect online (contact us at ee.region.globe@gmail.com if you represent U.S. Embassy and want to participate virtually – we will add your name on the list of attendees).
